Paul Handley now plays synthesizers in the new band 'The What 4'
New experimental rock band The What 4 will be recording an album in November and are now playing live around town. The unique, melodic, versatile sound has culminated and evolved from the experience of the members bands spanning the last couple decades. From the post punk 80’s –90’s bands, such as Antireason, The Bacchae, Martire, Grunter, and in more recent years, Beltane, Lankey, and Billion Dollar Bums. Whilst the emphasis is on finding the strength and substance within simplicity, the band is driven by a fluid rhythm section, immersed within a symphony of synthesizers and a myrid of cascading guitar, rounding it off with a touch of female vocals. www.myspace.com/thewhat4australia

It has been sometime since this site has been updated, Beltane
is still happening but unfortunately has been neglected somewhat of late,
due to time constraints, 2008 will be a chance to look at the band with

Electron, the solo project by Paul Handley of Beltane, has just completed
a full-length, 10 song CD, "Atmospherics". The music is derived
through capturing the energies of rhythms and timbres, of
organically occurring elements within cities and natural environments throughout
the world. These have all been recorded on location specifically for this
release and six of the songs were recorded in Prague at Faust Studio. These
sound-scapes, which virtually appear like songs within themselves, have
been unified with pulsating synthetic textures and solidly punctuated, processed
drum beats. While a good splash of black is also added to the canvas, to
create tension and definition.
Not quite like anything out there.

Well, it has certainly been some time since some news of
Beltane has been added to this site, apologies for that. There is some new
work well on the way and plenty of time has been spent experimenting with
new ideas, and in the course of progress the new music will be something
vastly evolved from previous recordings. Strangely enough the momentum for
an off-shoot in direction has come from retracing our beginnings and original
intentions. We are now back to a two piece Karina and I but will be collaborating
with other singers and musicians. We are currently looking for another female
vocalist to work with on our new project, we'll just have to find one within
our home of Adelaide! (email us if you are a candidate.. Beltane
). We will be uploading some sample of our new music shortly.

A 2004 version of the Beltane song 'Kinship', will feature on the free CD for the next issue of Fiend Magazine (issue #3).
